Betel leaf oil is extracted using steam distillation of young and fresh betel leaves of the plant and belongs to Piperaceae family. The aroma of this oil is sharp and tastes bitter. It is mainly produced in South East Asian countries with India being the leading producer.

It has many medicinal properties and is known for its fragrant, warming, antiseptic and stimulating properties. The oil is extremely rich in minerals and vitamins.

Common Uses

Skin: The antibacterial, anti-fungal along with antiseptic properties of this oil helps fight germs and infections. Skin allergies and infections like athlete’s foot, ringworms and common ailments like pimples may be treatable by this oil. Add 2 drops of betel oil, 2 drops of peppermint, 1 drop of Turmeric oil to 2ml Coconut oil and apply on the affected area to deal with wounds, infections as well as allergies on the skin.

Body:

Reduces Inflammation: The healing and curative properties of this oil are helpful in decreasing pains and inflammations like back pain, headache as well as joint pains in the body.

Aids in Digestion: This oil can be massaged on the stomach or inhaled to encourage the gases and juices within the stomach to aid in digestion as well as treat constipation.

Refreshes Breadth and helps gum problems: It is also useful for enhancing strength of teeth and gums. It also helps improve voice quality and refreshes breadth.

Mind: It also helps deal with lethargy or muscle and body spasms and helps ease tense muscles.

Caution: Avoid during pregnancy and with sensitive skin. It can cause possible sensitization in some individuals, so use in very low concentration only. It is important to note that all Essential Oils are extremely concentrated in nature and if to be applied on the skin or body, should always be diluted upto a maximum dosage of 4% in a suitable carrier oil.
